How to Keep your Pinup Tattoos Fresh Looking!

Pin up girl tattoos have long been an expression of beauty, sensuality and occasionally even a sign of female empowerment. Classic pin up models were often seen as the “ideal” of feminine beauty, and no matter what they did, they were always shown put perfectly together and never without sex appeal. So how do we keep them from fading fast?

Tattoo Brite - the first cosmeceutical for tattoos

Many pin up girl tattoos feature a realistic depiction of some of the most famous models. Some people like to go as far back as the 1920’s for their pin up girl tattoos. These pictures were done in black and white, or sepia tones and often showed a wavy-haired girl in a variety of poses, often sheathed in lace or exotic costumes, or even almost entirely nude. Some, however, had props thrown in such as bubbles, parasols and feather boas. In the 1950’s, these images became more colorful, and the props wilder. Bettie Page is without a doubt the most well known and most often used pin up models. She was often shown in bold animal prints, or dark leather, and was placed in many scenes; lounging on a beach, posing in a theme park, or being tied up by another scantily clad model.

Most pin up girl tattoos, however, are illustrations. They are usually either recreations of the work of some of the better known pin up artists, or highly exaggerated cartoons. One of the most recognizable examples is the Varga Girl. Artist Alberto Vargas dedicated himself to glorifying a sensual image of womanhood. Pin up girl tattoos featuring this style show a long limbed, heavily hipped and bosomed woman in a variety of flouncy lingerie or costumes. Most of these women are seen simply posing; hands on one bent knee, with the other stretched out; lounging with her arms behind her head, or laying on her side with a smoldering look in her eyes and a hand framing her face. On the cartoon-ish side, these models tend to be of more outrageous bodily proportions, and are shown in a multitude of styles; angels and devils, robots, fairies and gunslingers, amongst others.

Pin up girls seem to have a multifold nature. They can be sweet and unassuming, sassy, smart and totally capable of whatever they do (as they are regularly shown doing a great number of things). But however they may be styled; they will always be an enduring symbol of beauty, lustiness and grace.

Already heavily requested by makeup artists in the music and film industry who need a product that gives immediate results while holding up under studio lights or during long shoots, Tattoo Brite is the perfect solution for anyone who needs to brighten, enhance, and deepen tattoo colors.

Tattoo Brite extends the life of your tattoo while also giving your ink a definite “wow” factor. It recharges the ink at the dermal level, to make the ink colors richer, even black. In addition, it leaves a light catching polymer on the surface of the skin that highlights the tattoo and won’t rub off.

Tattoo Brite makes your tattoo look fantastic and stand out – whether you’re out at night or standing under direct sunlight.

Tattoo Brite

Also great to use before tanning! Not only does Tattoo Brite have completely photostable UV protection, but it’s unique anti-inflammatory InkBrite complex protects your tattoo whether you tan in a professional salon or outdoors, the old fashioned way.

Pinup Can Be Sexy for Halloween

Halloween has become a holiday enjoyed not only by children but by adults as well for an entirely different set of reasons.  It has been said that October 31st is the one day out of the year where inhibitions can be shed and modesty can be put to the side. It is a day in which it is completely socially acceptable to don an outfit you would only dream of wearing in your wildest fantasies. Halloween gives us the opportunity to loosen up a little bit and maybe even show some skin. It allows us to unleash our sexy side and let the sex pot within make an appearance. And, in the grand scheme of things, letting our sex pot out one day of the year may very well lead to her making an appearance more regularly.  Here are some tips for creating a sexy Halloween holiday that might just stick with you year round.

Fulfill Your Fantasies

Halloween provides us with an excellent opportunity to fulfill our fantasies. What character or role have you played in your fantasies? Were you a sexy schoolgirl? A naughty nurse? Maybe you were a mysterious geisha, a sensuous senorita, or a provocative pirate. On this day, you can be whoever you want. You are no longer Jennifer, the accountant. You are now a commanding officer or a sensual maiden. Whatever your fantasy may be, look for a costume that best reflects a character you’ve fantasized about being.

Define Your Style

When picking a costume, it is important to know what your style of sexy is. Are you mysterious sexy? Cute sexy? Seductive sexy? Sporty sexy? Knowing what style of sexy you are will help you choose a costume that best matches your underlying sensuality and will help you feel more comfortable in fulfilling your fantasy role.

Complement Your Assets

Each of us have features that others find attractive. When searching for a costume, it is important to identify your assets and then look for something that will complement those assets. If your legs are your best feature, look for a costume that accentuates your legs. If your bust is your best feature, find a costume that reveals your cleavage. Perhaps you’ve been told you have a to-die-for derriere. In this case, choose a costume that draws attention to your caboose. Got a nice set of abs? Look for an outfit that reveals your mid drift. Finding a costume that enhances your best features will help you feel more comfortable and more attractive in your costume.

Pack a Punch

Look for accessories that will really drive home the theme of your costume. This can include finding a pair of shoes that seamlessly match your costume’s concept. If you’re a sexy cowgirl, grab a pair of cowgirl boots; a ballerina, look for ballerina slippers; a Greek goddess, find a pair of gold gladiator heels, etc, etc. Also, look for stockings, jewelry, gloves, and any other accessories that will complement your outfit and help complete the picture.

Get comfortable

Before Halloween arrives, try on your costume and get comfortable in it. Nothing diminishes sexiness more than feeling uncomfortable and ill at ease in an outfit. Try on your costume and get used to how it feels on you. Wear it while you do simple pastimes or household chores. Sweep in it, dust in it, read in it. The idea here is to get accustomed to the way it fits on your body. Once you feel that you are comfortable in your costume, find a mirror and admire yourself in it. Admire how the costume accentuates your features and feel free to admit that your look good in it. Then be sure to role play. Watch yourself in the mirror and get comfortable with your new persona.

Now that you’ve found the costume that fulfills your fantasies, represents your style, & accentuates your assets, and you’ve accessorized and gotten comfortable with your new costume, you’re ready to live the fantasy. Get into character and go with it. Enjoy the way it feels to get out of your own skin for a bit. Relish the self-confidence and power that you feel in this new role. Be sure to capitalize on the moment and truly become your fantasy persona. And remember, the more you enjoy the experience, the more likely it is you will take your sexy with you long after Halloween is over.

Pinup Art to Pinup Palin

early-vargas2At the turn of the century most of american art was illustration. We could not afford art books. We didn’t have european art galleries or museum that we visited. We had drawings from magazine that showed all aspect of american life. Done in illustration. We can say that Vargas was one of the earliest.

Pinup Palin

Pinup art is still going strong. We have a new pinup girl/woman. I will hold comment on how we have got to this in Sarah Palin. This was taken from a blog post showing how we might be moving to another rround of Pinup Palin: Sarah Palin’s new book “Going Rogue” released Nov. 17 will likely come a media blitz of epicPicture 13 proportions. However, based on the cover of the Nov. 23 issue of Newsweek, someone felt a response was warranted.

HOW TO How to Apply Retro Makeup for African American Skin

by Jeanette Lynn Ponder

Leana HorneThe 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s were filled with gorgeous women of color. Think of Lena Horne and Billie Holiday – they epitomized the glamor, class, and beauty of African American women. Their look was simple, natural, andDorothy Dandridge strong, using a limited palette of color due to the lack of cosmetics options for African-American women. This guide will show you how to use modern equivalent products to create the retro, lush look with colors suitable for African-American skin. This look is fantastic paired with rockabilly fashion, or with a simple tank top and jeans.

    Applying Foundation

  1. Step1

Dab concealer on any skin imperfections that you wish to hide. Pat the concealer onto the delicate under eye area, being careful notPicture 1 to pull or stress the skin (that can cause sagging and wrinkling further down the line).

  2. Step2

Dot foundation along the cheekbone, nose, forehead, and chin on clean, moisturized skin.

  3. Step3

Blend the foundation color into the skin using upward strokes. Be sure to blend very carefully along the jawline into the neck, especially if you’re using a lighter shade than your actual skin tone.

  4. Eye makeup application

  5. Step1

Using the rounded eyeshadow brush, apply the medium brown shadow to the eye area to just over the crease.

  6. Step2

Apply the dark brown shadow along the crease and lash line using the crease brush. The color should meet over the outer corner of the eye. The crease color should be barely noticeable.

  7. Step3

With the eyeshadow brush, apply the peach eyeshadow to the eye above the crease and under the brow. If you’d like, extend the brush strokes slightly beyond the end of the eyebrow or corner of the eye. Use the powder brush or your fingers to blend your base, crease, and highlight colors together.

  8. Step4

Using the black pencil eye liner, line the upper and lower lids. Using the slanted brush, apply a fine line of dark brown eyeshadow to the outer half of the lower lash line. Use the fingers to blend and soften; no lines should be harsh.

  9. Eyelashes and eyebrows

  10. Step1

Using tweezers or fingers, use waterproof eyelash glue to apply individual false lashes to the outer corner of the upper lash line. For best results, dip the end of the lash into the glue, then position it. Let them set while you do your brows.

  11. Step2

With light strokes, fill in your brows with the brown/black eye liner pencil. If you’d like, extend the brow slightly past the corner of the eye for a glamorous touch. Retro eyebrows were strong and clean, so pay attention to the edges.

  12. Step3

At this point, the eyelashes should be dry. Carefully curl them using the eyelash curler. Apply one coat of mascara, wait a moment, then apply another.

  13. Lips and Finishing

  14. Step1

Line and fill the lips with the brick lip pencil. If you’d like, emphasize the peaks of the upper lip by making them slightly angular.

  15. Step2

Use the lip brush to paint the lips with the matte lipstick.

  16. Step3

Get rid of excess lip color by closing the lips over a napkin or paper towel once or twice.

  17. Step4

Finish and seal the entire face with a light dusting of translucent powder. Be careful to dust the lips slightly, as this will help your lipstick last longer.

You know I’m always looking for diversity in the pinup industry. Meet Char E’ (Pronounced Shar-A), she’s been modelling in the pinup style since 1999. She is the epitome of diversity, being part African American, part Native American and part Irish. I discovered Char E’ at CafePress, where you can find many more of her pinup images.
