I must admit, I’m not much of a bowler. A strike here, a gutter ball there–I can’t recall my score ever really breaking 100. But frankly, any bowling alley that serves top of the line martini’s and smooth sounding cocktails sounds like a good time to me.

Guide Review – Pin Up Bowl

Our friends Melanie and Patrick are always up for a good time. So the pair, along with myself and my husband, Matt took the journey out to the Legends at Village West on a recent warm Saturday night. Walking from the parking lot to the back side of the Pin Up Bowl, we heard the loud smashing of pins being knocked down–and Melanie and I giggled with glee.

We decided to grab a bite next door at Jazz, and then headed to Pin Up around 8:30. Walking in, you notice that Pin-up is a super-glam bowling alley. In the middle–a plush and retro furnished lounge area, to the right–a fully stocked bar. Towards the back–a gift shop and reservation booth.

If it’s your first trip to the Pin-up Bowl-I’ll give you the scoop. You may reserve lanes ($30-50/h) or walk in ($3.50-4.50) and pay as you go. Since we hadn’t made a reservation, we were told that our wait was going to be 30-40 minutes. There are only 12 lanes and the later it gets, the busier they are–the longer you wait. They suggested that we head to the bar, grab a drink and wait in the lounge.

With time to kill, we headed to the bar and inspected their extensive list of martini’s and cocktails. For the girls, raspberry lemon drop martini’s ($7) Matt, Bud Light ($3.50) and Pat, a Red Bull and Grey Goose ($7). As we took our first sips–the three of us wowed with the potency of our drinks. After 35 minutes of sipping and lively banter–our lane was open.

As Pat set up our names on the scoreboard–you couldn’t help but take a look at our surroundings. Groups of girls giggling over wine, couples cheering on each others gutterballs, a softball team noshing on bar food.

With one martini down, it was my first at bat. Amazingly enough, a strike–too bad the rest of my game didn’t fare so well. I did have one victory (101-100)-Matt claims he threw the game, but my martini and I knew better.

Prom Dresses

When shopping from prom dresses choosing the perfect prom dress is an important decision! Do you go short or long? What color should you choose? Strapless, halter or strappy? So many decision when sorting through all of those prom dresses!

Is this prom dress right for my school?
When shopping for your prom dress, consider if your choice would be proper for your school. Movie stars walking the red carpet do not need to show a lot of skin to look sexy and stunning.

Does the color of this prom dress look good with my skin tone?
Skin tones can be divided into “seasons” depending on some key characteristics.

“Winter” complexions have blue or pink undertones. Skin can be pale white, yellowish-olive, or dark. Winter people are generally brunettes, with deeply colored eyes. Many Asians and African Americans fall into this category. Winters should try prom dresses whose colors are sharp, stark and clear. White, black, navy blue, red and shocking pink all go well with winter complexions. For lighter colors, wear icy tones rather than pastels. Avoid subdued tones like beige, orange and gold. Try these Unique Vintage options:

“Summer” complexions, like winter complexions, have blue or pink undertones. Skin is pale and pink. Summers are often natural blondes or brunettes with pale eyes. Summers should choose prom dresses that are pastels and soft neutrals with rose and blue undertones. Lavender, plum, rose-brown and soft blue suit summers well while black and orange do not. Take a look at these Unique Vintage options:

“Autumn”. Autumn complexions have golden undertones. Many redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes fall into this category. Autumns should try prom dresses whose colors have golden undertones, like camel, beige, orange, gold and dark brown. Avoid colors with blue tones, like navy:

“Spring.” Spring complexions have golden undertones and are usually creamy white or peach. Spring people generally have straw-colored or strawberry red hair, freckles, rosy cheeks, and blue or green eyes. Springs can try prom dresses with warm colors like camel, peach, golden yellow and golden brown. Avoid dark, dull colors. Check out these Unique Vintage options:

Does the shape of this prom dress work with my body type?
Everyone has things that they don’t like about their body. When shopping for prom dresses, keep in mind that the right dress can hide flaws. Keep your particular body type in mind when shopping. You can accentuate the positive and downplay the areas that you don’t like. Whatever type of body you have, you can find a flattering dress to fit your shape.

When looking at prom dresses think about what your body type is:
Triange Body Shape: Triangle body types are categorized by a wider waist and smaller shoulders. Triangle body types also generally have a full lower half of their body. Flattering this body type is easy following a few simple rules. Flattering any body type is done by focusing on emphasizing the positive, and by minimizing the negative. The trick is to draw attention away from imperfections by the way you dress.

Try wearing light colors on top, dark colors on bottom. Simply put, dark colors hide, while light colors magnify. Select prom dresses with sleeves to draw the eye out, making shoulders seem wider, and balances out the larger hips.

Wear a prom dress that fits. Prom dresses that are too big look sloppy and unfinished, and doesn’t disguise narrow shoulders. Prom dresses that fits the shoulders exactly and simply draw the attention elsewhere looks polished and attractive. Find a good tailor. This especially applies to large busted triangle body types. In order to get a prom dress to fit properly, it is sometimes necessary to have it properly altered. Other styles of prom dresses that are not flattering on a triangle body shape include boat necks, anything without collars and scoop neck shirts.

Apple Body Shape: Women with apple body types tend to have an average to large bust, a wide waist and thin legs. Flat rear ends, narrow hips and wide shoulders are also key characteristics of an apple. Focusing on the positive–the arms, legs, and bust; while camouflaging the negative–the waist in particular; is the key to flattering an apple body type.

Choose prom dresses that have tops with details such a ruching on the sides, knotting, pleating or ruching. These details will draw less attention to the tummy area, which is an apple body type’s trouble area.

Wear v-neck or scooped neckline shirts. They accentuate the bust, which is a key feature. Any shirt that has an interesting neckline works well for an apple body type.

Dress in monochromatic prom dresses or add just one more color. Keeping the number of colors down creates an illusion of length, which draws attention away from the waist.

Wear dark-colored on the lower half of the prom dress. To draw attention from the waist and flatter the apple body type, dress in a lighter colored top.

Wear prom dresses that hit right above the knee. Flattering the legs, the best characteristic of an apple body type, is easy in a mid-length skirt. Beware, though—prom dresses that are too long, that hit below the knee mid-calf, for example, will not accentuate the legs, but draw negative attention to the stomach.

Hourglass Body Shape:
An hourglass body type has moderate to large bust and hips, and a small waist—generally 10 inches smaller than the bust and hips. The hourglass is the most highly desired body type for women due to its femininity. Dressing to flatter the hourglass body type focuses on proportion, since the top and bottom half balance out so well.

Choose prom dresses with tops that define your small waist. Wrap tops, tie waist tops or belted tops are great examples of this.

Show off a great bust. Scoop necks tops and V-neck tops are examples of tops that do this for an hourglass body type.

Avoid necklines that hit high on the neck like turtlenecks. They draw attention aw

May 13, 2009 by pikesan

I saw Ms. Candace at the Pinupalooza show during Viva Las Vegas, but I didn’t know it since she didn’t have the stunning red hair in the picture below. Plus, when flanked by hotties like Sabina Kelly, Dayna Delux and Heidi Van Horne, it’s easy to get distracted. None the less we’re friends now and here’s some info about May’s Pinup of the Month: Candace Campbell.

I was born in a small Louisiana parish. You’re looking at a genuine born and raised southern belle.

Since I was little I’ve been amazed by the mysterious blues lounge singers of new Orleans and fascinated with the glamorous vintage Hollywood and retro pin up style of the 40s. This explains why I am able to capture that classic essence so comfortably. I am a mix of the two worlds.

I was inspired by the bravery of elegance of Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn to name a few. I began collecting vintage clothes from the 1920’s through the 1950’s and learned about the details of dressing vintage from head to toe. I found out that not only were women dressed perfectly, but the underlying fashion was so much more interesting than today! In fact, it led to my first shoot.

I decided to take some classic pinup shots in 40’s lingerie as a present for my loves birthday. Soon after, by chance an important lady saw those pictures and I was asked to test shoot for Playboy Magazine. This was the start of my modeling career. I now specialize in Pinup and high fashion modeling. My love for the vintage style also led me to be a hairstylist so I’m now a celebrity stylist specializing in pinup and Hollywood glamor styles. I been blessed to work with some of the best models, celebrities, photographers, make up artist, hair and wardrobe stylists, magazines and burlesque dancers in the world.

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I have been taking Sin City by storm with my sexy pictures. I am available for shoots and willing to travel anywhere with expenses paid. Please just let us know!

What about Pinupalooza?

Phantom Entertainment’s behind PINUPALOOZA at the Harmon Theater during every Viva Las Vegas car show. With Celebrity Hosts and Pinup Girls “Sabina Kelley”, “Dayna Delux” and “Candace Campbell”. The 2009 event featured 2 very special burlesque performances by the lovely “Anabel Of The Ball” along with musical stylings of DJ Slick. Dayna, Sabina and Candace were also signing prints and calandars. Us 3 girls host it every year but for 2009, we had rockabilly band “Will and the High Rollers”.

For 2010 we plan on making it even bigger by having more burlesque includind a special performance by Sabina Kelley and 3 additional guest pinup appearances as well. We might have another rockabilly band. Everything’s falling into place now, but we’re keeping the models and burlesque ladies a secret as of now… We promise its gonna be the best pinupalooza yet!

If you’d like to find Candace, here’s where to look… she’s busy!

Her breakthrough single “I Kissed a Girl” established Katy Perry in the music world. However, her fashion caught the attention of designers even before she released the song that became a world-wide hit. Born as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in California US, Katy Perry (as she likes to be called) is distinguished for wearing unconventional style of dresses, often combining colors and vintage fashion, as well as associating outfits with fruits.

The young pop star has generated as much controversy with her songs, particularly “Ur So Gay” and “I Kissed a Girl”, as much as she did with her costumes, some as weird as ice-cream cones and carousels. What’s remarkable is that Katy pulls off the craziest of outfits flawlessly and they look fabulous on her. An established singer-songwriter and musician, Katy can be as effortless in facing millions of her fan over a guitar as she is posing as a pin-up girl in flowery outfits teamed with sexy high heel stilettos, her dark tresses styled in soft Dita von Teese curls to give her a timeless seductive look.

Katy’s famous vintage style
Katy Perry is very stylish but she is always in the eyes of the fashion police. According to the songstress herself, she “doesn’t mind being a regular on the worst dressed lists”. As long as she is experimenting she is “totally OK with ending up in the ‘worst dressed.’ It’s happened many, many times, but I’m proud of those outfits,” Katy claims.

The singer describes her unconventional fashion style as “a bit of a concoction of different things”. Though she also claims, “I have my own look, which I call ‘Lolita meets old Hollywood Glam.’”. She pompously names actress and burlesque performer Dita Von Teese and Cyndi Lauper as her icons. “I’m a big fan of Dita Von Teese, because she does it all herself. That is her job: to look fabulous going to the grocery store.”

Fun Fun Fun

Her stylist Johnny Wujek, who’s worked with her for album and magazine covers, red carpets, and music videos, describes her style as “very colorful and vintage”. She is not afraid to make a statement. If there is something that Wujek thinks would be too much; Katy would be like, “Amazing idea!” The celebrity stylist during an interview stated, “I think it’s cool that Katy’s so free-spirited and just kind of loves fashion as an art form.”

“A nice dose of sexiness” makes a person look stylish according to Perry and says she likes to wear dresses that are fun, colorful and happy. According to some fashionistas, the most enchanting facet of Katy’s fashion sense is that she can look ravishingly sexy and innocent at the same time. While many pop stars try hard but miserably fail to achieve this look, but with Perry, you get the sense that it’s no act.

Her fruit fixation
A peculiar aspect of Perry’s style is her noticeable fixation for fruit accessories. “It started with my obsession of the 1940s and cherry charm bracelets and strawberry and cherry pattern baskets on women’s dresses,” explains the star who “loves anything fruit”. You can often notice her eclectic get-up complimented with fruit-shaped accessories such as strawberry barrettes, watermelon earrings or sequined bananas. For her performance at the Grammy’s, Katy chose a bedazzled, fruit-encrusted mini-dress complete with watermelon-shaped bra cups. Stylists often comment that fruits accessories have become a staple of Katy’s dressing.

Her affinity for shoes
Fashionistas who have watched Perry’s fashion sense closely claim that the pop sensation loves clothes, shoes and accessories possibly even more than recording a number one single. If you observe her pictures, you can easily notice that Katy is head over heels about high heel shoes. Perry’s selection of shoes is often appreciated by the accessories watchers. The color, style and heels of her shoes gel naturally with her costume and other accessories. If you just take a look at the choice of her shoes, you can observe just how sexy the right pair of shoes can look.

According to experts, Katy’s preference of shoes displays the influence of old school pop-rockers such as Cindy Lauper and Pat Banatar. The ‘Ur So Gay’ singer’s immaculate taste in shoes shows that Perry is well aware of the fact that the key to looking great is on paying attention to all the details.

Katy’s fondness for a fabulous pair of stiletto shoes is famous. Her sporty colorful high heel stilettos always seem to do justice to her funky and often jaw-drooping outfits. Pumps, court shoes, ankle strap sandals and t-bar shoes appear to be her favorite style provided they are fitted with spindly stiletto heels. Perry can often be seen sporting shoes by Christian Louboutin and Sonia Rykiel. Her favorite shoe designers though are Nicholas Kirkwood and Steve Madden. Katy often adorns her fancy feet with their vibrant and exotic creations.
